FireTiger FAQ
  • Q: How do I get access to login to FireTiger?
  • A: Right now you can't. For now only Firetiger administrators can login. As soon as the other services like personalization, e-mail, or web hosting comes online the general public will be able to login.

  • Q: I have been banned from FireTiger.net by the anti-cheat technology. How do I get unbanned?
    OR
How do I find my Half-Life WonID?
  • A: First of all, completely remove all the cheats that you installed that got you banned, otherwise you will just be banned again when you reconnect. Once you've done that, send your WonID, CS player name, and a good explanation as to why you should be unbanned to the admin to be unbanned you.
Alternatively, you can post a message with the same above information in the FT CS bans forum instead of e-mailing it.
You can find your WonID in one of several ways:
    • Simply connect to the FireTiger.net Counter-strike server. While you connect, some status messages from HLGuard and StatsMe will show up. They list a lot of the settings on the server. Toward the beginning, it also lists your player name and WonID.
    • Find your stats page on FireTiger.net. The name of your individual statistics HTML page is your WonID. Ex.: 1234567.html would be the WonID of 1234567.
    • Connect to any Internet CS game and type status in the console (press the ~ key when in the game to get to the console). The second number after your name is a 5 to 7 digit number that is your WonID. (There is also a small guide at joe.to that has screenshots.)

  • Q: [Something] isn't showing up correctly on your website. What do I do?
  • A: Are you using Netscape Navigator? This site has been designed to be as cross-browser functional as possible but there are not enough users that use Netscape browsers to warrant a full overhaul and duplicate site to get every element properly displayed. You are welcome to notify the webmaster in an attempt to fix the problem if it is feasable.
Are you using Internet Explorer? This site was specifically designed and tested for IE5 and IE6 so there shouldn't be any problems there. It's probably an error on the webmaster's part. Let him know and he'll work with you to fix the problem.
So, if it's not NN or IE, you're using one of those other funky browsers. No offense, I like Konquerer and Opera myself, but I just can't design for everything. Besides, usually those browsers are the problem before the web site is; a lot are still beta.
Issues
  • Q: When I login, I get a message something like 'a redirection to an unsecure site.'
  • A: After you submit your username and password via secure SSL, the site automatically redirects you back to normal HTTP (non-SSL) communication. There are two reasons for this:
    1. Your password is stored server-side so private information is not being sent back and forth so SSL is not necessary after the initial logon.
    2. SSL communication is not cacheable so it slows down your access to FT uneccessarily.

You can always stay connected via SSL by changing the web address (URL) from the usuall HTTP:// prefix to HTTPS:// (add the 's' for secure). Note however that data is not cached (saved) so every page and image must be completely resent every time you move from page to page so this is not suggested.
Anytime private information is required to be sent (except for forums), and as long as you use the FT links scattered around the web site, you will be redirected to use SSL automatically.

  • Q: What is this certificate stuff?
  • A: You'll notice that the first time (after you open your browser for a new session) and you go to one of FT's secured pages (SSL encrypted), a window pops up saying something about a certificate. Your browser is asking you if you want to accept this 'unsigned', encrypted 'certificate' to start sending encrypted data back and forth. The way it is supposed to work is for this site to pay way too much money to a 'verified' source like VeriSign to give this site a 'signed' certificate. However, you can install FireTiger's own certificate authority so that you will not be asked about it anymore and FireTiger doesn't have to waste money on proving to everyone who we are.
Remember, it will still encrypt all data sent to and from your computer and the FireTiger servers and functions like every other encrypted web site as long as you install the FireTiger Certificate Authority or accept the basic certificate.

Remember, you do not have to install the FireTiger CA, simply select Yes in the popup window any time it shows up and you will continue to the encrypted page. Installing the CA will just keep this window from popping up everytime you try to connect securely to any of the FireTiger servers.

  • Q: Even though I login with the correct username/password, I don't seem to stay logged in.
  • A: You must enable cookies for this site. For security reasons FT has chosen to store session data (which includes whether or not you're logged in, but not any passwords or personal information) via secure PHP cookies.
