FireTiger.net LAN Network Setup

Right click on
Network Neighborhood
.
- Make sure the following items are in the list and are checked:
-
-
[Your network device (network card)]
-
Client for Microsoft Networks
-
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
-
IPX/SPX Compatible
-
TCP/IP
-
If you have more than one network device installed, these items might be listed more than once.
You only need to make sure that the ones that have your network card's device name after them are there.
-
If one or more of these aren't installed, click
Install
and add them.
-
Select the
TCP/IP
item and click the
Properties
button.
-
Make sure
Obtain an IP address automatically
is selected. Click OK
.
-
Go to the
Identification
tab.
-
It would save you time browsing the network to set the
Workgroup
setting to "workgroup"
but is not necessary if for some reason you have it set to something different and need it to stay that way.
-
Click
OK
. Restart your computer if asked to do so.

Make sure you are signed in as Administrator
or as
a user that is part of the Administrators
group on your computer to
perform the following tasks.

Right click on
My Network Places
.
-
Double-click on
Local Area Connection
item.
-
Click on
Properties
.
-
Make sure the
Connect using:
box lists your network card.
- Make sure the following items are in the list and are checked:

Client for Microsoft Networks
-
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
-
NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
-
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

If one or more of these aren't installed, click
Install
and add them.

Click on
Configure
below the name of your network card.
-
(The following may not work for all network cards but if the options
are there for you, set them as indicated.)
Select the
Advanced
tab. Then select the
Network Connection
and set the value field via the dropdown box to
100 Mbps Full-Duplex
assuming your card supports this feature. (You can tell if it's 100 Mbps by
the light on the switch/hub if the switch/hub is 10/100 auto-sensing.)

Click
OK
.

Select the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
item and click Properties
.
-
Make sure both
Obtain an IP address automatically
and
Obtain DNS server address automatically
are selected. Click OK
.
-
Select the
NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol
item and click
Properties
.
-
Make sure the
Internal network number
is set to 8 zeros in a row (00000000). Click OK
then click Close
.
-
Click
OK
. Restart your computer if necessary.

If you wish to allow other people to connect to your shares, make sure that your
Guest
account is enabled with an empty password. To do so:
-
Go to
Start -> Control Panel
-
Double-click on
Administrative Tools
and then
Computer Management
-
Expand the
Local Users and Groups
item and select
Users
-
If there is a red X on the
Guest
account double-click it and uncheck
Account is disabled
and make sure the other two options are checked. Click OK
.
-
Right click on
Guest
now and select
Set Password
-
Make sure both fields are blank and click
OK
.
-
When you're back at the
Computer Management
console simply click the X (close) button.

Make sure you are signed in as Administrator
or as a user that is part of the Administrators
group on your computer to perform the following tasks.

- Make sure you are logged in as Administrator (or a user with Administrator privelages.)

Start -> Settings -> Network Connections
-
Right-click on
Local Area Connection
-
Click
Administrators
.
-
Select
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
and click Administrators
.

Select the
Obtain an IP address automatically
option
-
Select the
Obtain DNS server address automatically
option:
-
Just select OK to all the open windows and follow any instructions Windows gives you. You should now be connected to the FireTiger LAN network.

It would also be a good idea to install the
IPX/SPX
protocol if it hasn't already been.
