FireTiger Services - LAN Party
|
|
Event Dates List
| Date | Location | Games | Entry fee | Status |
| There are no LAN parties currently scheduled. | |
| The weekend parties almost always last
from noon until whenever everyone leaves that day.
Weekday parties start at 6 PM EST.
Most people usually leave a little after midnight. |
Mandatory (per person):
- Power strip and extension cord (required)
- Computer (obviously required)
- 10/100/1000 Mb network card (already installed). If you don't already have one,
there are extra available (to borrow or purchase), but you must let the admin of that LAN party know of
your needs prior to the party. (Gigabit NICs supported but not on a gigabit connection--10/100 mbit only.)
- Your own labelled CAT5 cable (>6ft req.; ~15ft better)
- Monitor (19" or less)
- Input devices such as mouse, keyboard, gamepad, and/or joystick
- MOUSE PAD! Everyone always forgets these. They are also usefull for
laser mice in case you're put on a reflective or awkward surface.
- Headset or headphones only (No speakers!)
- Money (enough for entry fee, if any, plus some extra for food, purchasing
various networking components you lack, dinner if everyone goes out, etc.)
- Any necessary CD-ROMs for that party. The usuall CDs needed are:
- Windows OS CD if you are using an old version (98, ME, or 2000).
- Doom 3
- CS:Source/Half-Life/Counter-strike - We will definitely play at least one of these; you
need your own CD key and Steam installed to play, however, you won't need the actual CD
We WILL NOT provide games for you. You must acquire them on your own PRIOR to the LAN party.
- All available updates to whatever we'll be playing (check
FilePlanet.com for the most recent versions)
- Half-Life (1 or 2)/Counter-strike -- Steam must be installed
- Unreal Tournament 2004 -- 3369
(Most of the above updates are available over the LAN when you get here, but it is suggested that you do this before you come to save time and frustration.)
Optional (differs per LAN party--let the owner of the LAN party location know if you can bring any of these):
- One decent extra computer to run dedicated servers when necessary
(ie.: other HL Mods, Q3, etc.) or to let unfortunate souls without
computers use for a while when at the LAN party. No peripherals (including monitor)
necessary if it's just going to be a dedicated server. Make sure that the DS is set
up already before you come, please.
- Please bring extra 100/1000 switches if you have them.
- [Folding] tables and chairs
|
- Food/drinks You must clean up after yourself. Alcohol is prohibited for all since some minors usually attend. One gauntlet run punishment per food/waste item found laying around.
- No Uninvited Guests please. Only come if you're invited or the admin
of that particular party has okayed your being there.
- Sleep You're welcome to cat nap somewhere out of the way but don't plan on staying the night unless explicitly allowed to by the party's admin. Exceptions: If the party is at Mufasa's place or it is a two day event, plan on being able to sleep, but you'll have to bring your own bedding if you need it.
|
|
If there is an entry fee listed in the event dates list above, you must
present it to the admin when you show up. The fee
will go to the following items:
- Tournament winnings
- Free food and pop
- Extra hardware for future LAN parties (switches, extension cords,
surge suppresors, network cables, NICs, server hardware, etc.)
|
If there is an entry fee (as noted in the
event dates list above), there will be a tournament of some kind or another.
Part of the entrance fee total will go to the winner and runner-up of whatever
tournament that is played that day.
The game and rules for the tournament will be decided by a consensus of the
paying attendees of that party.
You do not have to participate in the tourney, but if you don't
you still can't get your entrance fee (that went
toward the tourney jackpot) back. |
|
These documents are step-by-step guides on how to setup your computer to work on the party's LAN (for those of you who need the help).
Windows 98
Windows 2000 (pretty much the same for 2003)
