About FT CS:
FireTiger.net runs a Half-Life: Counter-strike
server all day, every day.
Both AdminMod
and StatsMe
run on the server too. This helps both administration, and user play better. It adds ease, fun, and a lot of real-time,
in-game statistics. Check out their web sites or FT's AdminMod help page for more information
on these great mods.
There are several advanced plugins
(and some just for fun) for both AdminMod and StatsMe.
Check the AdminMod web page for more information about the various plugins and the available commands.
The PTB (team balance) plugin seems to confuse a lot of players since it has been added. There is
a good FAQ about the plugin at SETH.dk.
A slightly modified version of the plugin is running
because the original just didn't work for the FT server. The modified version should function basically the
same way. Must of the changes were just bug fixes.
Every once in a great awhile, there used to be a lag spike where everyone
except LAN players and bots, have higher than average pings for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute.
These were mainly the unfortunate result of FireTiger's ISP's bad cable modems. The administrator
worked really hard to correct this with software since the modem couldn't be replaced. Check out
his article on rate limits on Linux 2.4. This has done such an excellent job that the admin hasn't seen
a lag spike since this change.
As soon as enough money is raised to sustain a decent 1.1/1.5MB DSL connection, or even T1, FireTiger
will be upgraded to that connection which will eliminate the lag spikes completely.

How to Connect:
In the past, some poeple have complained about FireTiger.net not showing up in the
game servers list in Half-Life. This issue has been looked into and determined not be
a fault of FT but just the way Won.net works. If you can not get it to show up the
normal way, or simply want a quicker/better way to connect to your favorite
server, try using these options:
1) The easiest (but longest) option is to update your list in the Internet Games section of
Counter-strike. Only filter by dedicated server
and a game type
with the value of cstrike
. Then sort alphabetically and look for FireTiger.net
If you want to use the Add Server
command, the IP you enter is as
simple as "firetiger.net" (without the quotes). (Half-Life will automatically convert it to the right IP and the FT CS server runs on the default port of 27015.)
2) The second best way to connect would be to get to the console and just type:
connect firetiger.net
You can get to the console by pressing ~ (the tilde key by the exclamation mark ! )
while
playing the game (don't press shift at the same time though). You'll need to add -console
to your shortcut command line to get the main menu Console command. If you don''t, just join any game, and bring
down the console there.
3) Another way would be to install the Half-Life Protocol program. Then just navigate back to this web site and click on the desired link at the top of this page.
4) The fastest way to get into the FT CS server, is to add (the tilde key by the exclamation mark ! )
to the Counter-strike shortcut (or a copy of). It will launch CS and take you directly to the FT CS server.
Don't know how to add anything to the shortcut command line? Just right-click
on the shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut
tab, or wherever your version of Windows puts the Target
text box,
just add the neccessary commands after the hl.exe file. (Or cstrike.exe
if you have the retail version.)
